Workshops / teaching / facilitation

I regularly deliver workshops, masterclasses and teaching across the UK, working with theatres, drama schools, higher education institutions, emerging artists, community participants and established professionals. My practice is rooted in care, creativity and craft - supporting participants to grow their voice and make bold, thoughtful work, whether it is their first piece or their fiftieth. I tailor every session to the group, and put a strong emphasis on inclusion and access.

Areas I Teach & Facilitate In:

  • Playwriting - covering a range of topics from first concept to final re-drafts, including structure, character, dialogue, editing and form. I can provide workshops for complete beginners through to established writers currently working on a draft.

  • Directing - covering everything from the craft of directing, preparing for a process, working with actors, working with creative teams, evaluating your work, working with text/visuals/political content, assistant and associate directing, and developing your unique style.

  • Developing & Directing New Writing - how to support the development of a new play to it’s fullest, from early concept, through R&D to final production.

  • Generating Ideas & Creativity - practical, playful approaches to get started or get unstuck, and find fresh, bold ideas.

  • Working With Writers - for directors, devising companies and dramaturgs looking for a practical toolkit on how to collaborate with writers.

  • Building Disabled Access Into Writing & Directing - embedding access from the beginning, both practically and creatively.

  • Making Queer Theatre - how to build queerness into processes and practices; the history and present-day of queer theatre; how to make work rooted in queer stories, bodies and aesthetics.

  • Finding Your Voice - workshops to support artists to find their unique style, and ways to articulate it when pitching in industry contexts.

  • Making Personal Work on Difficult Topics Safely - supporting artists and leaders who are aiming to use personal material with care, wellbeing and sustainability in mind.

  • Creative Processes for Neurodiverse Artists - tools for building flexible, responsive processes that suit neurodivergent artists and encourage them to thrive.
